Days after the city’s e-challan system took effect, Karachi authorities announced a new speed limit for motorists on Shahrah-e-Faisal.
The government fixed the speed limit at 60 km/h for cars and jeeps. Heavy vehicles, including buses and trucks, were restricted to 30 km/h due to their size and braking limitations, according to Karachi Traffic Police Deputy Superintendent of Police Admin Kashif Nadeem.
With motorcycles required to follow the 60 km/h limit, he explained that vehicles crossing this limit were fined automatically through the e-challan system installed along Shahrah-e-Faisal.
It's worth noting that Karachi's e-challan system uses modern cameras to detect violations and issue fines automatically.
The Sindh government announced that the e-challan system was enforced to ensure a strict implementation of traffic laws and enhance public safety.
According to Sindh Information Department Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, the government's priority has always been the protection of the lives and properties of the citizens, even as this decision faced criticism from opposition parties and some members of the public.
He further added that the measures were taken as the number of road accidents and instances of rash driving was growing.
