In the midst of Pakistani citizens facing restrictions from multiple nations, the Kuwaiti government has finally repealed the ban and reopened visas for Pakistanis to strengthen bilateral relations and fulfil its labour needs after nearly two decades.
Citing Dr Zaffar Iqbal, Pakistan’s ambassador to Kuwait, The News reported that plans were underway to accommodate 1,200 Pakistani nurses into Kuwait's healthcare sector, which has been observing rising demand.
A group of 125 nurses was initially expected to arrive in Kuwait last week but faced delays owing to housing issues, as per Dr Iqbal, who added: “Special teams are actively resolving the issue, and we expect the nurses to arrive in the coming days.”
From May 2025 onwards, Pakistani applicants will begin receiving approvals for a variety of Kuwaiti visas, including work, family visit, dependent, tourist, and commercial visas.
It's worth mentioning that the resumption of Kuwaiti visas for Pakistanis has also revived a crucial channel for travel and employment between the two countries.
In a separate and surprising move, Pakistan and Kuwait are soon expected to finalise a new labour memorandum of understanding (MoU) to improve worker mobility and cooperation, Dr Iqbal further outlined. “Some provisions are already being implemented ahead of the formal signing,” he added.
Over 93,000 Pakistanis living in Kuwait play a vital role in major sectors like healthcare and education in the Middle Eastern country.
