The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has chosen to establish a dedicated Maintenance and Repair (M&R) Directorate to address persistent road maintenance problems in the provincial capital.

Notably, the goal of this action is to solve the long-standing issues of subpar building supplies and postponed repairs, which have been costing LDA and other government organisations millions of rupees annually.

Recently, a meeting to complete the establishment of the M&R Directorate was presided over by LDA Director General Tahir Farooq.

Following a review of several road maintenance models, it was determined that the new directorate would make use of contemporary technology, such as artificial intelligence, circular monitoring vehicles, and a mobile app with digital record features and geo-tagging.

This will make it possible to monitor the state of city roads in real time.

Farooq ordered the creation of a thorough system to guarantee prompt patchwork, rehabilitation, and repair of city roads and highways under LDA's control.

Different zones will be assigned to LDA and TEPA to increase accountability, and third-party monitoring will be used to ensure transparency and quality.

In order to ensure prompt responses to problems like potholes, damaged manholes, and other road infrastructure issues, the M&R teams will patrol every day.

It is anticipated that this proactive strategy will greatly enhance the general state of city roads.

The senior engineering team at LDA is already working on completing the framework for the directorate, which should be operational in the near future.
