The first MacBook Air with an OLED display, originally slated to launch by 2027, has reportedly been delayed and is now expected to launch by 2029.

Reports emerging on the internet suggested Apple has finally decided to delay the OLED-display MacBook Air because of lower-than-expected sales of the first iPad Pro models featuring the same display technology.

MacBook Air with OLED display

According to a report by a Korean publication, the Cupertino-based tech giant decided to postpone the adoption of OLED technology for the MacBook Air after evaluating its lack of impact on iPad Pro sales.

While the report highlighted Apple's selling woes as the primary reason, it is unclear if there were any other reasons for the delay.

While the MacBook Air will adhere to LCD technology in upcoming years, Apple is anticipated to utilise "oxide TFT" technology for 2027 models. This significant upgrade promises enhanced colour accuracy, higher contrast audio, and reduced power consumption to ensure extended battery life.

While OLED technology will not be integrated into the MacBook Air lineup soon, these enhancements should provide users with a better display experience.

MacBook Pro models with OLED displays are still expected to launch by 2026.

In the meantime, Apple is likely to reveal updated 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models featuring M4 chip in the upcoming months.
