Apple is gearing up to release macOS 26, likely named after Lake Tahoe. As users prepare for the next major macOS, a new rumour has surfaced that even more Intel Macs may be left in the dust, including a model that was initially believed would still be supported.

According to 9to5Mac, the 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro with two Thunderbolt ports may not be updated to macOS 26.

This model has an older 8th-generation Intel chip, the same as Apple's 2018 MacBook Pro models. Meanwhile, the 2020 MacBook Pro with four Thunderbolt ports includes a newer 10th-generation chip and is still believed to be supported.

Updates have previously indicated macOS 26 will drop support for a handful of older Intel Macs, including Apple's 2018 MacBook Pro, the 2020 Intel MacBook Air, and the 2017 iMac Pro.

Notably, users have the unfortunate addition of the 2020 two-port MacBook Pro, which raises even more questions about other models back to 2019.

macOS 26 supported devices

Here’s a quick rundown of Macs that are rumoured to still support macOS 26:

  • MacBook Air (M1) or later
  • MacBook Pro (2020, 4-port model) or later
  • iMac (2020) or later
  • Mac mini (M1) or later
  • Mac Pro (2019) or later
  • All Mac Studio models

With Apple moving away from Intel, many older Macs are being phased out. Users of older devices may need to prepare for limited future updates and features.
