Meta is reportedly working on a new feature to allow users to post their Instagram Reels directly to Threads, enabling cross-posting functionality within two of its social media platforms.

Since its inception, Meta has been enhancing its services in a bid to stay competitive with its rivals such as X (formerly Twitter), as very recently it allowed Threads users to see more details about their followers from other servers across the fediverse.

Cross-platform sharing of Instagram Reels on Threads

The feature was discovered by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi who claimed that Threads is testing a new option to let users select Instagram Reels and post them directly on Threads.

With this update, the drop-down menu on Threads now includes a new Instagram option along with the existing GIF, Voice, and Poll.

Paluzzi also mentioned that when users tap the Instagram logo button in the Threads compose box, a grid with Instagram posts and Reels will appear. From there, users can choose which Reels they want to share on Threads.

While many users already cross-post their Instagram Reels and posts on Threads to get more engagement, the addition of this new button will make it easier.

Currently, this cross-platform posting feature is in the testing process. Once rolled out, it will likely save time for its users, specifically content creators and business owners who otherwise would be switching between the two apps.
