The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has officially launched a new online service for registration of birth and death through its mobile app Pak ID.

The service has been rolled out initially in the union councils of Jhelum, Chakwal, and Nankana Sahib in Punjab as a pilot project, which was prioritised as normal administrative functioning has been compromised due to floods and therefore may make in-person visits to union councils in these areas challenging.

With this new feature, citizens don't need to visit government offices multiple times. They will be able to apply online, upload the application’s supporting documentation, and monitor and assess the status of their own cases through the Pak ID app.

This change in accessing services will not only save the consumer time but will also introduce a level of convenience and transparency into the process.

NADRA officials noted that they are already planning to expand the service across the entire country.

"The goal of the initiative is to ease citizen services and make them paperlessfor those who live in rural and disaster-affected communities," they said, adding that the project is combined with NADRA’s broader initiative of digitising services and establishing updated population records.
