The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) is expected to refund Rs1 per unit by distribution companies (Discos) to consumers in December bills of electricity.

The indication of refunds for surcharges in October 2024 came to light after a hearing on the petitions of Discos on Tuesday.

During the hearing of the petitions concerned, the power regulator was proposed by Discos to repay Rs1.0159 per unit to power consumers for monthly fuel charges adjustment (FCA) registered in October 2024.

The refund comes to be the fourth consecutive occasion of FCA reductions following 18 months of consistent hikes.

The refunds will be provided to all consumer categories except for lifeline users and domestic consumers using up to 300 units, electric vehicle charging stations, pre-paid electricity consumers across all categories and agricultural consumers.

Earlier accounts of FCA refunds include the grant of Rs0.3692 per unit to consumers in September bills for FCA of the preceding month, following the repayment for August FCA with Rs0.8555 per unit in October bills, as well as the approval of September’s FCA with Rs1.2754 per unit in November bills.
