Google is starting to integrate NotebookLM directly into Gemini, making it easier for users to add detailed context to their conversations with the AI chatbot. The feature allows users to attach NotebookLM notebooks within Gemini chats, enabling more informed and accurate responses.

The integration appears to be rolling out in a limited and early phase. According to TestingCatalog contributor Alexey Shabanov, NotebookLM access within Gemini is currently available on only one of his five Google accounts.

Once this setting is turned on, NotebookLM will appear in a dropdown menu available in Gemini's attachment sheet via the Plus button in the text input box.

With it, a notebook can be attached, such that a user can command Gemini to analyse, summarise, or respond to queries based on a notebook.

This integration can be especially beneficial since it will allow people to tap into Gemini’s latest models of reasoning while maintaining context for NotebookLM content. They can switch back to their original notebook with ease using the Sources button, which will bring up NotebookLM.

NotebookLM is considered one of Google’s most advanced AI tools, especially when it comes to research, document analysis, and understanding content. Through the integration of this tool with Gemini, Google aims to make life simpler for people by reducing application hoppiness.

Shabanov first discovered signs of the integration in November, following an APK teardown, which indicated that this integration has been in the works for a considerable amount of time. As this integration is not yet widely available, a formal announcement from Google will most likely arise when this integration goes live.
