The federal government is expected to increase petroleum prices in Pakistan from July 16, 2025, as global oil prices continue to fluctuate.

According to multiple reports, petroleum prices are expected to see an increase of Rs3 to Rs5 per litre in the next fortnightly review.

Meanwhile, the prices of kerosene and light diesel may see reductions of Rs3.74 and Rs2.23 per litre in Pakistan.

Previously, the Shehbaz Sharif-led government hiked petrol prices by Rs8.36 per litre. High-speed diesel went up by Rs10.39. Petrol now sells for Rs266.79 per litre, and diesel for Rs272.98.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has completed its work based on the latest global market trends, and a final summary will be submitted to the government by tomorrow.

The Ministry of Finance will make the final decision after consultation with the prime minister. However, OGRA provides technical estimates, the government considers economic factors such as the exchange rate and fiscal needs before implementing fuel price changes.

Expected petroleum price in Pakistan from July 16, 2025

Fuel type Current price

Expected increase

New price

MS (Petrol)266.79Rs6.60Rs273.39

High Speed Diesel (HSD)

272.98Rs5.27 Rs278.25

The expected increase will put more pressure on household budgets nationwide. It is worth noting that higher fuel prices have a far-reaching impact on Pakistan’s economy, particularly as petroleum products are directly linked to transportation, logistics, and industrial production.

A surge in diesel costs is expected to further increase the price of goods and services, contributing to inflationary pressure on consumers already facing high living costs.
