In a tragic incident which might have resulted in the casualties of hundreds, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight on Sunday reportedly made an off-runway landing at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore.
Citing sources, Business Recorder reported that the mishap was caused by excessively foggy weather. A PIA spokesperson confirmed the incident.
The mislanding involved PIA aircraft PK-150, which was said to be en route from Dammam to Multan.
Owing to unfavourable weather conditions, the PK-150 flight was diverted to Lahore when a technical error was allegedly carried out by the pilot while landing the plane.
Despite the primary runway being available, the decision, partly driven by the runway lights turned off, endangered the lives of passengers, the publication noted.
It was also learned that both the captain and the first officer were suspended as investigations into the incident began, for which blood and urine samples of the cockpit crew were collected by the Bureau of Aircraft Safety Investigation.
