Google's Pixel phones have established themselves among the most efficient Android devices out there, yet there come occassions that plague even the most honoured smartphone maker's reputation. Right now is the time when Google has fallen in hot waters as the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are undergoing a disconcerting battery swelling problem.
Citing users on Google’s support forums, Android Authority reported that many owners have noted that the side panels of their devices are falling apart because of swollen batteries.
The issue outlines safety concerns regarding the Pixel 7 lineup's battery health, which is being widely anticipated to pose a risk of explosion or fire.
One user highlighted their experience with a Pixel 7 Pro, stating: "Upon closer inspection, it appears the battery may be swelling."
Similar complications were mentioned in other complaints pertaining to the ongoing Pixel 7's battery issues. Some of these user complaints stated that the battery was rapidly dropping, while others lamented unexpected shutdown of devices despite being fully charged.
With the issue being a hot topic, reports circulating on the internet indicated that Google’s support response has been inconsistent, as some users purportedly received offers for free repairs or replacements, while others were instructed to visit service centres with no proper guidance.
In certain cases, customers are getting reimbursed for battery replacements only if they had receipts from authorised repair centres, with additional damage considered out-of-warranty.
The notable point is that this isn't the first time Pixel devices are facing battery issues. Google initiated a one-time battery replacement programme earlier this year for the Pixel 7a because of the same battery swelling issue.
