The Ministry of Energy (Power Division) on Friday announced the nationwide rollout of smart meters across electricity distribution companies (Discos) in Pakistan.
According to the Power Division's spokesperson, smart metering will restore consumer confidence in the system. Terming fiscal year 2025-26 as "Customer Service Improvement Year", the spokesperson said that the focus is on providing better facilities and a transparent power supply system.

According to the Power Division, the smart meter system along with competitive procurement is likely to save Rs25 billion annually.
"Out of approximately 38 million consumers, 80% are single-phase users," said the Power Division, adding that the price of smart meters has been slashed from Rs20,000 to Rs15,000.

“This will empower consumers to better control their energy consumption and manage their electricity costs,” added the Power Division.
