In an attempt to bring to a halt the discourse lamenting the outdated, original Powerbeats, Apple finally launched its much-anticipated Powerbeats Pro 2 earbuds.

Debuting six years of non-stop speculations from reliable tipsters and industry experts, Powerbeats Pro 2 have embraced a myriad of feature upgrades as well as a few design tweaks, with the most notable property falling in the health monitoring segment: built-in heart rate monitoring.

What sets the inclusion of this feature apart from the previous, original model of Powerbeats earbuds is that it automatically kicks in during workouts to provide the wearer with real-time data via LED optical sensors.

The earbuds are adorned with their predecessor-like tantalising look and have developed upon their sound, better battery life, and wireless charging capabilities.

Not only does heart rate monitoring operate with Apple’s own health app, but it's also compatible with various other fitness apps, including Open, Peloton, Runna, Slopes, Ladder, Nike Run Club, and YaoYao.

The company's healthcare portfolio further expanded late last year after it integrated a hearing aid feature into the AirPods Pro 2.

Apple's Beats lineup of earbuds harnessing the heart rate monitoring feature is an indication that a similar suite of features could anytime drop off AirPods.
