XREAL has announced its next big step into the extended reality (XR) space with Project Aura, set to become the second Android XR headset after Samsung’s upcoming “Project Moohan.”
The announcement was made during Google I/O 2025, where Google also revealed its XR partnership with Warby Parker.
XREAL’s Project Aura
Project Aura is expected to offer a smooth Android XR experience, focusing on lightweight hardware and optical see-through technology.
It will allow users to view the actual world when digital content is superimposed over it, providing a combination of virtual and real environments.
Though the specific details are yet to be announced, the headset has already generated buzz by XREAL's strong experience in XR wearables.
The headset will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR chipset, which is specifically tailored for spatial computing. This enables the headset with the capability of processing immersive apps, real-time graphics, and responsive interactions.
XREAL indicates that Aura will bring its established hardware design together with the Android XR software stack to deliver a headset that's powerful yet easy to use.
XREAL plans to showcase Project Aura in more detail at the Augmented World Expo (AWE), happening June 10–12 in Long Beach, California. This annual event brings together global leaders in augmented and virtual reality, and it’s where we’ll likely get our first real look at the headset in action.
