The Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA) on Friday launched an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered system to automatically detect fake, tampered, and cloned vehicle number plates across the province.

Officials said that with this newly deployed AI system in place, the use of fraudulent number plates can no longer go unnoticed. If any vehicle is found using an illegal number plate, Safe City surveillance cameras will identify the violation, and the system will automatically generate an alert, which will then be forwarded to the Safe City Virtual Patrolling Officer.

Once the Safe City Virtual Patrolling Officer has received the alert, they will dispatch the relevant field force to the location.

PSCA has issued a strict warning, noting that no leniency will be given to offenders, as they will not only face heavy traffic challans but will also be charged under serious criminal laws for fraud, forgery and the use of false documents.

Cases will be registered under sections 420, 468, 471 and 171, as any illegal alteration or misuse of vehicle number plates is considered a serious criminal offense.

Citizens who are living in Punjab, the authority urged that only original and legally issued number plates need to be installed on their vehicles.
