Punjab government has started work on the feasibility and design phase of the Blue Line Metro Train, a public transport project, set to revolutionise Lahore’s urban mobility.

This plan aims to give a fast, efficient, and environmentally friendly transport solution for over 250,000 passengers daily.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan to accelerate the feasibility and design phase. The project, once completed, will cover a 27-kilometer route from Valencia Town to Babu Sabu Chowk, passing through some of Lahore’s busiest areas.

Blue Line Metro Train details

Blue Line Metro Train is expected to be completed in three years, with a speed of up to six meters of tunnelling per day. The overall estimated cost is over Rs600 billion, while the final cost is to be determined post-feasibility study.

Punjab Transport Department has already conducted preliminary studies on the Blue Line Metro Train. Earlier in 2016, an initial feasibility study explored a partially underground route, but the latest June 2024 study has confirmed the feasibility of an entirely underground metro system.

Various international financial institutions, including those from China, Japan, and France, have urged interest in funding the project.

Punjab government is in talks with these potential investors to secure the necessary financing.

Blue Line Metro Train is claimed to transform Lahore’s public transport system, providing a safe, modern, and efficient transit solution across the city.
