Amazon’s artificial intelligence (AI) shopping companion is now rolling out to all users across the US. Accessible through the site’s mobile app, users can tap the orange and blue icon on the app’s navigation bar to chat.

Named Rufus, this AI helps buyers compare products, updates them on delivery statuses, and answers various related questions. Originally launched in February on a limited scale, Rufus uses customer reviews, product lists, and community Q&A to generate responses.

Users can ask Rufus direct product-related questions like, “Is this kettle easy to clean?” or seek recommendations for the best outdoor speakers, as well as more general queries about products needed for a summer party.

Rufus becomes available once the mobile app is updated to the latest version. When hovering over a product, the AI automatically suggests questions that may help customers better evaluate the product.

Additionally, Rufus provides context, such as describing a phone’s battery life with specific features enabled.

Despite being marketed as a shopping companion, Rufus can interact like any other chatbot, responding to questions beyond retail, including topics like the US elections or recommendations for reading materials.

Notably, Rufus is still in beta, and while it may stumble over details initially, these issues are expected to improve with increased use.
