As Samsung is making waves owing to its next flagship Galaxy lineup, Galaxy S26, the South Korean tech giant is considering partnering with the widely popular AI startup, Perplexity, to introduce its AI assistant.

According to a Bloomberg report, Samsung is having talks with the AI firm to feature Perplexity AI as a pre-installed assistant on next year’s Galaxy S26 models.

If the collaboration comes to fruition, it would mark one of Perplexity’s largest mobile deals after its previous collaboration with Motorola.

It's worthwhile to note that this does not imply the termination of Google’s Gemini, which is by far reported to remain the default assistant.

Instead of getting rid of Gemini, Samsung is planning to give users the option to opt for either Gemini or Perplexity during initial device setup. Users might also gain the ability to switch this setting later.

Whoever secures the crown, the move could challenge Google’s dominance in the mobile assistant market. While Bixby, Samsung’s own assistant, has struggled to prove a competent alternative, Perplexity AI might give Samsung a competitive edge.

The Galaxy maker is also rumoured to be looking at integrating Perplexity AI features into Samsung Internet to challenge Google Chrome's dominance on Android.

This partnership is in line with Samsung’s plans for building an AI ecosystem through a series of acquisitions.
