Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26 series might disappoint fans hoping for a front camera upgrade. Reportedly, all Galaxy S26 models will feature a 12MP selfie camera with autofocus, similar to the setup Samsung has used since the Galaxy S23 lineup.

This implies that while the S26 series should still provide decent selfie capabilities, substantial upgrades will likely come from software calculating functions rather than hardware advancements.

Samsung could change the aperture size or sensor quality of its camera hardware, but leaks have indicated that the company is being cautious thus far.

This cautiousness contrasts with Apple’s latest move with the iPhone 17 series. The redesigned square selfie sensor produces an easier landscape photo while holding the phone in a vertical position.

Reviews of the Galaxy S25 series cameras created different opinions. Some users seemed to enjoy the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s selfie camera, while others simply described the S25 and S25 Plus as “fine."

With the Galaxy S26, Samsung will likely rely on AI-intensive image processing software and other program tricks to elevate the image quality.

Moreover, on the rear camera side, prior leaks have stated that the Galaxy S26 Pro could utilise the S25’s structure, while the S26 Ultra is expected to keep the predecessor’s hardware with some minor upgrades, like a wider aperture for the main lens and telephoto lens.
