A Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice anime adaptation might be officially underway, thanks to a new domain registration.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is one of the most challenging games from FromSoftware, having been released in 2019. It was praised for its incredible swordplay mechanics, and it explored a fascinating time period in Japan during the Sengoku Era.
Moreover, the game had huge critical and commercial success, surpassing 10 million units sold in 2023 and winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards in 2019.
However, it's somewhat fallen under the shadows of other recent titles like Elden Ring, Sekiro remains beloved by dedicated fans.
The news comes from the domain registration "Sekiro-Anime.JP", which was filed on July 31, by Kadokawa, which has a majority stake in FromSoftware. While the domain appears to lead to a 404 page, the fact that they registered the domain suggests that an announcement for an anime adaptation is coming very soon.
Though unverified reports claim the project could come from animation studio Qzil.la, which worked on Kuromi's Pretty Journey and animation for both Chainsaw Man and Hell's Paradise.
One noted concern is that Qzil.la has officially announced that it uses AI in its anime production, which has made some fans feel uneasy about the quality of an adaptation from a studio utilising such technology.
