The Sindh Cabinet has approved the abolition of the death certificate fee, allowing citizens to obtain the document free of cost across the province. The decision aims to make the process more accessible and citizen-friendly.

According to an official Spokesperson, this initiative is a continuation of the cabinet's previous resolution from September 2024 that implemented free registration of births in Sindh.

Meanwhile, the two decisions are separate and distinct; they both reflect the government's approach to improving civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) with the United Nations and other international partners.

Under the new policy, the Sindh government will pay all service fees paid to the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) so that applicants do not incur any expense when obtaining a death certificate.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah commented that the initiative was introduced to ease the burden on citizens and support the ongoing transition of the province to digital registration of vital events under the Local Government Act 2013.

He noted that making such documents free would ultimately ease the administrative burden on the public and also help strengthen public record-keeping systems across the province.

The proposal, which was vetted by the Law and Finance Departments and validated by the Chief Secretary, received formal approval from the Sindh Cabinet during its recent meeting.
