
With netizens in Pakistan eagerly eyeing the much-awaited launch of 5G, State Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja announced that the spectrum will be offered by May or June this year.
As the spectrum is crucial to ease and expedite the transition to 5G, the development coincides with the government's significant strides to enhance the country's digital connectivity.
Khawaja made the announcement during the 5G Regulatory Masterclass held in Islamabad, as reported by the Business Recorder.
She highlighted that the country is making efforts in the IT and telecom sector, aiming to raise Pakistan's IT exports from $3.2 billion to $15 billion and attain the prime minister's $25 billion economic target on the back of advanced digital infrastructure.
5G Regulatory Masterclass, a four-day event running from February 17-20, was organised in collaboration between the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and Nokia Pakistan.
The event marked a significant milestone towards strengthening trade ties and digital collaboration between Pakistan and Malaysia.
Touching upon the vitality of digital advancement, the IT minister explained that more than half of Pakistan is currently operating on a 274 MHz spectrum., reassuring that Pakistan's connection to the world’s largest optical fibre will revamp internet connectivity.
