The government of Islamabad has made it clear that all vehicles without M-Tags will be restricted from entering the capital from January 1, 2026. Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon appealed to citizens to get their vehicles registered well in advance to avoid any hurdle at sites of entry points of the capital.

As reported by the district administration, the reason behind the implementation of the M-Tag system is to improve security and traffic management in Islamabad. In total, 95,369 M-Tags have been issued to the vehicles, of which 1,235 were in the last 24 hours.

Deputy Commissioner Memon pointed out that there are 16 registration centres for M-Tag available in various places in the city where residents can register their vehicles.

Moreover, it is noted that setting up M-Tag reader installations at entry and checkpoints is already underway, and full implementation will only occur once everything is operational.

Residents have been encouraged to finalise their M-Tag registration to prevent any restriction on the entry of vehicles and possible penalties. The authority has reiterated that this is imperative for ensuring a safe and well-regulated city for everyone.
