Space X's Polaris Dawn mission just reached orbit and, in the process, it notched the world's first private spacewalk. Launched atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, the mission will carry astronauts Jared Isaacman and Sarah Gillis on a two-hour spacewalk above Earth on Sept. 12.

What to expect during SpaceX's Polaris Dawn mission spacewalk

The first commercial spacewalk will happen on day two of the mission. The crew is doing functionality exercises and suit manoeuvrability during the time Isaacman and Gillis venture out. There are 40 science experiments, including a Starlink demo.

They will also spend five days in space, conducting experiments and preparing for the historic spacewalk. When mission objectives are met, they prepare for their return journey, splashing down in the ocean six days after liftoff.
