In a bid to revamp the way users personalise their messaging experience, WhatsApp has introduced an innovative feature allowing users to generate AI-powered chat wallpapers using Meta AI.
WhatsApp AI wallpaper generator: How it works
Available in the latest beta version for Android (v2.25.19.11), the new wallpaper tool has been integrated into WhatsApp’s chat theme settings.
Users can personalise all their conversations or select chat-centric themes directly from the chat info screen of any individual chat.
In the wallpaper generation interface, a curated selection of suggested AI-generated backgrounds has been designed for users, and what sets this feature apart from the crowd is the ability to let users input text prompts describing their ideal wallpaper.
Whether it’s “sunset over Santorini,” “retro neon skyline,” or “minimalist Japanese art,” Meta AI interprets these prompts and creates multiple design variations tailored to the input.
This new AI wallpaper generator caters to users eager for alternatives to static default wallpapers, offering a dynamic design experience that evolves with their tastes and moods, all without needing graphic design skills.
Meta AI uses its proprietary generative image models to interpret natural language prompts and produce visual compositions. These models, also powering Meta’s creative tools across platforms like Instagram and Messenger, provide a new level of user-directed design.
Currently, this innovative WhatsApp feature is only available in WhatsApp's beta version for Android, and more testers are expected to gain access in the coming weeks.
Those interested in AI-generated WhatsApp wallpapers can enrol in the WhatsApp Beta Programme via the Google Play Store.
