Facebook has officially announced support for passkeys on iOS and Android, which makes it easy for users to access the app in an advanced way.

On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, the Meta-owned social network platform revealed on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, that passkey logins make it harder for bad actors to remotely access your accounts because they require physical access to your phone. Unlike standard logins, passkeys use Face ID or Touch ID, a PIN, or a physical security authentication key to validate logins.

Passkeys remove the requirement to depend on username and password combinations, which can be susceptible to phishing and other issues.

According to Facebook, passkeys will also start rolling out to Messenger in the coming months, and users will be able to use the same passkey for both services.

To note, passkeys can also be used to auto-fill payment information when making purchases using Meta Pay, Facebook says.

How to setup passkey support on Facebook

  1. To set up a passkey, navigate to the new “passkey” option in the Accounts Centre within the Settings menu on Facebook.
  2. Once it’s set up, you can start using your passkey to log in to Facebook on your phone.
  3. You can still use other authentication methods, such as your password, to access your account.

Meanwhile, you can still access the social network, using a device that doesn’t support passkeys.

Notably, Facebook is one of many tech companies to launch passkey support in the past year or so.
