Due to an increase in phishing and hacking attacks targetting ordinary citizens, a high-level warning has been issued to WhatsApp users across Pakistan by the National Cyber Emergency Response Team (NCERT).
To breach accounts and take advantage of private information, cybercriminals are employing phoney links, phoney verification codes, and dishonest tactics, as highlighted in the NCERT advisory.
The advisory also warned that these attacks have the potential to spread false information or perpetrate fraud in addition to granting unauthorised access to contact lists and private images.
As it stands, WhatsApp users across Pakistan are encouraged to activate two-step verification in the app settings and remain cautious when they receive messages from unknown numbers in order to guard against these threats.
Users can learn more about WhatsApp's privacy features and how its end-to-end encryption protects messages.
To safeguard their accounts and personal information, NCERT has urged users to exercise caution and take the appropriate measures.
