WhatsApp is taking a significant step towards enhancing user privacy by testing a new feature which allows users to open "view once” media on linked devices.
This move is part of the Meta-owned app’s ongoing efforts to amplify its privacy features.
What is “view once” media feature on WhatsApp?
Currently available on the WhatsApp Android beta 2.25.3.7 version, the "view once” media feature enables users to share photos, videos, and voice messages that disappear from the chat after being opened.
The feature adds an extra layer of security, particularly when sharing sensitive content, as recipients cannot save, copy, or forward the media.
Earlier, users couldn't view or send "view once” media on linked devices. However, WhatsApp has now expanded this capability to linked devices and desktops.
The feature greatly enhances the convenience of using the feature, especially for those who rely on multiple devices throughout the day.
With this update, users will no longer need to switch back to their primary device whenever they receive a view once image, video, or voice note. Instead, they can view media on any of their linked devices, making the feature more practical and efficient.
The feature is currently available to limited testers via the Google Play Beta programme and is expected to be released to the public soon.
