In a bid to let users make use of discussions held previously with its in-app artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, WhatsApp is releasing a new chat memory feature for Meta AI.
Currently available to select beta testers on WhatsApp's latest Android update, the memory feature allows users to manually store specific details in the chatbot's memory by instructing it to remember particular information. For instance, if a user indicates they are vegetarian, the chatbot will remember this preference and provide future restaurant recommendations that in line with it.
The functionality goes beyond diet-related issues. If a user is more into historical documentaries, the chatbot will prioritise relevant suggestions when asked about viewing options.
This personalisation enhances the user experience, turning the chatbot into a personal assistant that understands individual tastes and lifestyles.
It's noteworthy that Meta AI only remembers information that users willingly share with it, ensuring privacy and end-to-end encryption.
Users have full control over their stored information, allowing them to review, update, or delete preferences as needed.
This feature, previously announced by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, will be gradually expanded to a wider audience in the coming weeks.
