The upcoming big update for Windows, called Windows 12, is almost finished and is expected to bring in a new age of AI (Artificial Intelligence) computing, a report from a Chinese financial newspaper stated.
The report added that Windows 12 will be launched around June 2024. The information comes from statements made by Quanta chairman Lin Baili and Acer chairman and CEO Jason Chen during an event conducted in Taiwan on November 30.
According to Baili, there has been a significant increase in spending on generative AI in recent years, surpassing $1.37 billion in 2022. He anticipated that once Windows 12 is released, there will be a series of AI-powered PCs entering the market.

While it's challenging to estimate the demand, he believes it is a great opportunity for the industry.
Jason Chen, Acer's CEO, gave similar remarks. He doesn't believe that AI PCs will become hugely popular overnight. However, it will take time for people to adapt to these new computers.
Over time, AI PCs are expected to introduce new ways of using computers, leading to increased demand.
The expected launch date for Windows 12 in mid-2024 aligns with previous speculations. Earlier suggestions from Intel CFO Dave Zinsner indicated a "Windows Refresh" in the coming year, making it a promising year for Intel's client-side business.
Earlier, rumours suggested the release date of Windows 12 near fall 2024, with a full release in 2025.
The focus of the new operating system is said to be heavily on AI, with features like separate "states" on different parts of the storage drive, making OS management and updates more accessible for Microsoft and users alike.
Additionally, a floating taskbar, teased during Microsoft's 2023 Ignite conference, may also be seen in the new OS.
