Xiaomi 17 Ultra, the company’s upcoming flagship smartphone, is officially set to launch on December 25, and early teasers have already put the spotlight on its biggest strength: mobile photography.

Contrary to earlier Ultra versions that came along with four cameras at the back, the new Xiaomi 17 Ultra has abandoned this and come up with something simpler in terms of camera design, involving triple cameras.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra specs

The phone has a huge circular camera module at the back that holds three high-quality cameras.

The feature gaining the most attention is the huge 200MP periscope telephoto lens, which increases by 35% compared to the one on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, as claimed by Xiaomi itself. This is a huge upgrade regarding telephoto photography.

The primary sensor is the 50MP OV50X from OmniVision, featuring a 1-inch image format and the third generation of LOFIC technology. This sensor helps in achieving brighter photos, better low-light conditions, and enhanced dynamic range. It is accompanied by a third 50MP ultra-wide sensor.

Leica is back as the camera collaborator of the Xiaomi brand. The device comes with Leica APO optical certification. It helps in the reduction of colour fringing in the images taken through the telephoto lens.

Apart from cameras, what sets the Xiaomi 17 Ultra apart is its high-quality white design, with a massive body that is directed at users who wish to enjoy a professional-level experience offered by a smartphone. The launch teasers of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra reveal that Xiaomi is targeting photographers.
