For a long time, satellite communication has been a premium feature offered only on ultra-flagship smartphones, but it looks like Xiaomi is about to change that.
New leaks shared by Chinese sources say that the Xiaomi Mix Flip 3 will support satellite messaging, making it the first clamshell foldable from the brand with the ability to include satellite technology.
The leak was shared by the popular insider "Experience More" and was found on Weibo, as noted by "You know what will happen," and also suggested that Xiaomi isn't done just yet.
Notably, the Redmi Note 50 Pro+ SatCom Edition is also set to get Beidou satellite support and will allow the user to send short messages if mobile networks are unavailable.
Notably, the Mix Flip 3 isn't going to offer this feature on all models. Reports suggest that only the 2603APX0AC variant of the Mix Flip 3 will provide satellite messaging capability, while the standard 2603EPX2DC will not.
The same applies with the Redmi Note 50 Pro+; just the SatCom Edition will allow messaging without a network connection.
Pricing for these "Satellite Editions" is still unknown, but analysts speculate that they will likely cost more since the added hardware is needed.
