Chinese tech company Xiaomi is preparing to launch its second electric vehicle — the YU7 electric SUV — on Thursday, May 22, in Beijing.

The launch comes just months after Xiaomi released its first EV, the SU7 electric sedan, which took the Chinese market by storm.

With over 200,000 units delivered in just 119 days and 28,000 deliveries in April alone, the SU7 proved Xiaomi’s ability to compete with established players like Tesla.

Interestingly, the company is aiming to take on the Tesla Model Y with the all-new YU7 SUV, built for performance and size.

According to regulatory filings, the YU7 will feature a dual-motor system, with speeds up to 253 km/h. It will also be equipped with a lithium-ion battery from CATL, though the capacity hasn’t been disclosed yet.

The YU7 is expected to attract attention from premium SUV buyers looking for power, design, and tech innovation.

Moreover, the event — which marks Xiaomi’s 15th anniversary — will also showcase the Xiaomi 15S Pro smartphone, Xiaomi 7 Ultra tablet, and, most notably, its first mobile chip, the Xring O1.

CEO Lei Jun has called this expansion part of a long-term vision, with over $1.8 billion already invested in chip development.
