Xiaomi, the globally famous Chinese automaker, has launched its new sports utility vehicle, the YU7, in Beijing, as the tech giant is aiming to challenge Tesla in the world’s largest automotive market.

With orders scheduled to start from July, the latest Xiaomi will arrive at 13 of the company's showrooms, as the automaker giant is aiming to keep pace with the success of its sporty SU7 sedan, which has been outshining Tesla Model 3's monthly sales since December 2024.

Despite that, the YU7's debut is said to have come at a challenging time for Xiaomi in China's hard-fought electric vehicle (EV) market, which has caused new EV orders to fall after a series of controversies, Reuters reported.

That said, Chinese authorities are investigating a deadly highway crash involving the Xiaomi SU7, which was operating in driving-assistance mode.

It should be noted that Xiaomi has apologised for "not clear enough" marketing after receiving complaints about misleading advertisements.

Liu Jiaxing, a 34-year-old tech worker, was among the first fortunate individuals to take a closer look at the YU7.

While YU7's pricing remains to be announced by the company, HSBC Qianhai projected the cost to range from 230,000 yuan to 330,000 yuan ($31,989-$45,898). The firm has also estimated that around 100,000 units of the Xiaomi YU7 will be shipped this year, with expectations of 249,000 units by 2026.
