Conversational AI feature for YouTube Premium
“Our conversational AI tool is expanding to all US YouTube Premium members with Android devices. Use it to dive deeper into the content by asking questions about what you’re watching,” the official handle of TeamYouTube posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Once the feature rolls out, YouTube Premium users can access it by using a new “Ask” button below the videos, in the same row as the Like, Share, and Download buttons. The Ask button is followed by the sparkle icon, denoting it as an AI-based feature.
Here's how to use YouTube’s conversational AI
By tapping the “Ask” button, a new window will be opened in place of the comment section which will allow users to type queries about the video.
Moreover, Premium users can also ask the AI tool for details about any specific object being shown in the video, the genre of a song, or a video summary. Users can also request the AI tool to recommend any similar content.
The video-sharing platform will collect data whenever a user interacts with the tool and asks a query. The data will be used to improve and develop products and services and will be deleted from the servers automatically within 45 days.
While the platform didn’t disclose the details of the Large Language Model (LLM) being used some reports suggest it might be relying on Google Gemini to summarise YouTube videos and comments.
YouTube has revealed that the tool might not be available in every video and currently supports select English-language videos. However, it is yet to be announced when the feature will be available to users in other regions.
