In a major step forward towards strengthening Pakistan's electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, over 3,800 businesses and investors have shown interest in setting up EV charging stations nationwide.

According to National Energy Conservation Authority (NEECA)'s Managing Director Dr Sardar Moazzam, this growing interest marks a crucial move toward building a comprehensive EV ecosystem in Pakistan.

NEECA has granted licenses to 71 EV charging stations, while an additional 30 to 35 operational stations are in the final stages of approval and registration.

The authority has also received 128 more applications, indicating a strong and rising demand for EV infrastructure across Pakistan.

Moazzam emphasised the increasing interest in this industry by pointing out that some businesses are nearing the end of the paperwork required for their EV station licenses.

In addition to standard charging stations, some businesses are now exploring the potential for battery-swapping infrastructure, an innovative solution that could further streamline EV usage.

It is anticipated that this development will improve Pakistan's electric vehicle usage efficiency and convenience.

Moazzam also highlighted that both local and international companies are actively exchanging information and forming partnerships, which is accelerating industry growth.

He outlined that licenses are granted within 15 days of submitting the necessary paperwork, demonstrating the effectiveness of the licensing procedure.

"Companies are also interested in establishing battery-swapping infrastructure alongside charging stations," he continued, underscoring the EV industry's potential for innovation.
