With the race to integrate AI and outshine competitors continuing to rage, Adobe has announced to incorporate third-party image-generation tools from OpenAI and Google into its Firefly AI, in a bid to supplement the capabilities of its own AI model.
The integration of third-party tools into the Firefly AI app appears to be a significant step in Adobe’s plans to offer greater creative freedom to users using its software suite, which includes globally acclaimed software like Photoshop and Premiere.
Reuters reported that Firefly’s upcoming mobile version will also support these models to simplify it for users to generate AI content.
Adobe's Firefly was originally launched in 2023, and it allows users to generate AI-created images and videos. With this offering, the company has made its in-house model “commercially safe,” making sure that users don’t face legal risks when generating content with AI for professional use.
In a push to expand creative options, Adobe is integrating external AI models, including OpenAI's image tool, Google’s Imagen 3 and Veo 2, and Flux 1.1 Pro. The editing pioneer also revealed plans to add models from fal.ai, Luma, and Runway in the near future.
According to Adobe CTO Ely Greenfield, while many professionals still prefer Firefly for its legal protection, others are prone to experiment with various tools during the creative process.
