Flying cars are no longer science fiction as Alef Aeronautics, a US-based automaker, has introduced the world’s first street-legal flying car. The company recently shared footage of its flying electric vehicle (EV), called Model A, successfully taking off during a test flight in California.

The test demonstrated how the car seamlessly transitions from driving on roads to flying, marking a historic moment in transportation technology.

Alef’s Model A specifications

The Model A is a small two-seater car meant for city travel. It can be used as a normal car on the road but also possesses the special feature of taking off vertically whenever necessary. This makes it the perfect solution for evading traffic jams in cities. The vehicle is powered entirely by electricity, thus becoming an environmentally friendly option compared to conventional cars.

Moreover, it is capable of covering a flying range of 110 miles, giving users the means to cover lengthy distances in flight. On the road, it supports a driving range of 200 miles, enough for daily journeys. The automobile runs at the speed of 25 mph when on the ground, which is quite slow but is compensated for by its aerial capability.

To ensure safety and stability, the Model A car is equipped with eight hidden rotors that provide smooth and controlled flight. It also features autopilot capabilities, allowing for an easier flying experience.

The car includes obstacle detection, a glide landing system, and a ballistic parachute for emergencies, making it a secure option for both drivers and passengers.

How much does Alef’s flying car cost?

Alef Aeronautics has already pre-sold 3,300 of the Model A. People willing to get one can pre-order for a deposit of $150, but the cost is $299,999.

Alef CEO Jim Dukhovny compared this innovation to the Wright Brothers' first flight in 1903. With the backing of Elon Musk, the electric flying car has the potential to transform the future of personal transportation.
