Amazon has taken a big step by announcing that its Prime Invitee benefit-sharing programme will end on October 1.

People who don't live in the same home but use someone else's Amazon Prime membership to get free shipping will be impacted by this decision.

Amazon Family, a new programme, is taking the place of Amazon's Prime Invitee programme, which enables households with up to two adults and four children to share Prime benefits like free shipping, Prime Video, Prime Reading, and Amazon Music.

Family members living at the same primary residential address are intended to receive benefits from this programme.

Amazon Prime subscription options

People who are currently enrolled in someone else's Prime Invitee programme will need to purchase their own Amazon Prime membership to continue receiving free shipping.

The monthly price of a Prime membership is $15, but new members can purchase a one-year subscription for $15.

Users can also choose to sign up for a 30-day free trial to try out the service.

Why Amazon Prime Invitee is ending

Slower Prime signups may have contributed to Amazon's decision to discontinue Prime Invitee, according to reports.

Internal expectations were not met by the company's reported 5.4 million US signups during the Prime Day event.

In order to draw in more Prime members and boost sales, Amazon is requiring distinct households to have their own subscriptions.

Users who are currently enjoying the benefits of Prime Invitee will need to take action to continue to do so before the termination takes effect.
