Google has rolled out the feature to allow Android devices to communicate with each other for seamless collaboration, much like devices in the ecosystem of their competition, Apple or Samsung.

The new Google feature is known as cross-device services, allowing instant hotspot and call sharing across devices logged into the same Google account.

How to enable cross-device services

To turn on cross-device services, follow these simple steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Google > All services > Cross-device services.
  2. Tap Next to set up cross-device services.
  3. Tap Ok to join a group of devices under the same Google account.

This feature addresses the roadblocks that caused devices not to be able to connect in the background. Now, if you cast a video call onto another device, or start up a hotspot and connect to it from your secondary phone or tablet, you won't need to unlock the main device.

How to join an instant hotspot

There are two ways to join an instant hotspot:

Auto notification: Switch on your offline phone near your connected phone, and it will notify you whether you want to use your main phone's hotspot.

Manual connection: Go to available Wi-Fi networks and select the network of your main phone to initiate an instant Hotspot.

How to cast video call

To cast a video call to your second phone or tablet:

  1. Tap the Cast icon during a Google Meet video call
  2. Select the device you want to transfer the call to
  3. Confirm the transfer on the receiver device

Cross-device services mark a significant step towards seamless integration between Android devices. With this feature, you can enjoy effortless hotspots and call sharing.
