
Apple recently included California to the list of select US states that allow residents to add their driver’s licenses in the Wallet app, and is now planning to add more states to the list.
Driver’s licenses within Apple Wallet
The driver’s licenses feature in Apple Wallet for iPhones and Apple Watches provides users a more convenient and contactless way to prove their identity and age at select airports and businesses within the select US states.
Additionally, the IDs stored in the Wallet app are encrypted on a device and the data is not accessible by the company or the state issuing the ID.

List of states offering driver’s licenses
The select states include
- Arizona
- Maryland
- Colorado
- Georgia
- Ohio
- Hawaii
- California
However, now, US states such as Montana, New Mexico, and West Virginia will be committed to supporting this feature in the future.
Following this announcement, the digital IDs can be used at select TSA checkpoints at airports, including the San Francisco International, Los Angeles International, and San Jose Mineta International.
The tech giant also revealed that users will soon be able to present their Wallet app ID in person for select services, including CLEAR member enrollment at airports and the feature will also be supported in the CLEAR, MyChart, and Uber Eats apps shortly.
Notably, the tech giant previously announced the addition of various US countries, including Connecticut, Iowa, Kentucky, Utah, Mississippi, and Oklahoma to the list of those that offer driver's licenses in its Wallet app. Still, none of those states have rolled out the feature yet.
