Apple has released its latest MacBook Pro 14-inch (M3 Max) model, which is a comprehensive reversal of the 2016 redesign. The new MacBook Pro comes with a few caveats and one big new compromise that has already caused fresh controversy.

In this review, we will explore the features of the MacBook Pro 14-inch (2023) and help you decide if it’s worth the investment.

MacBook Pro 14-Inch (M3 Max) design

In profile, the new MacBook Pro looks rather like the pre-2016 models. Apple has listened to its users and almost everything major that changed with the 2016 redesign and annoyed people has been reversed. The notch will be controversial, but it is easy enough to get used to.

MacBook Pro 14-Inch (M3 Max) price and specifications

The new 14-inch MacBook Pro price in India starts at Rs 1,69,900. It comes with an M3 Pro CPU that has eight active CPU cores and 14 GPU cores. For this price, you get only a 512GB NVMe SSD, and this variant is the only one that ships with a slower 67W charger.

What you will probably want is the M1 Pro configuration with 10 CPU cores and 16 GPU cores, which is priced at Rs 2,39,900 in India. This option also has a 1TB SSD and you get the faster 96W charger. There’s a custom configurable option with 10 CPU cores but only 14 GPU cores for Rs 5,000 less, which seems like an unnecessary variation.

Usage and performance

This is customers’ first experience with Apple’s M3 Pro SoC, which promises even more power than the M1 from last year’s 13-inch MacBook Pro refresh. Apple is drawing new lines between its Pro laptops and the MacBook Air (or just MacBook, as it might be called).

The MacBook Pro 14-inch (M3, 2023) packs 512GB of SSD storage. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 ax, Bluetooth and it comes with 3 USB ports (3 x Thunderbolt 3 (Type C)), HDMI Port, Multi Card Slot, Headphone and Mic Combo Jack ports.

MacBook Pro 14-inch (M3 Max) is a powerful and efficient laptop that comes with a few caveats. The new MacBook Pro comes as a surprisingly comprehensive reversal; almost an apology to users of the past few generations.

Nearly everything major that changed with the 2016 redesign and annoyed people has been reversed — but there are still a few caveats and one big new compromise that has already caused fresh controversy. Apple has listened to its users but is also still doing many things its own way. Can you live with this new balance, or has Apple just found a different way to alienate actual professionals? The decision is yours to make.
