Apple is expected to introduce a revamped Mac Studio later this year, featuring the robust M4 Max and M4 Ultra chips.

This upgrade will help Apple restore its Mac lineup, which has been disconnected since the Mac mini received an M4 Pro chipset. Currently, the Mac Studio features the M2 Max and M2 Ultra processors.

What is M4 Max chip?

The M4 Max chip, currently featured in the latest MacBook Pro, is one of the fastest chips on the market. It has a 16-core CPU and a 40-core GPU.

On the other hand, the M4 Ultra chip which is expected to power the high-end Mac Studio, will likely have a 32-core CPU and 80-core GPU, with the help of Apple's UltraFusion technology.

What to expect from new Mac Studio?

The new Mac Studio will likely boast faster connectivity options, including Thunderbolt 5 ports, which will enable speeds of up to 120Gb/s. This is a major upgrade from the current Thunderbolt 4, which has a maximum speed of 40Gb/s.

Moreover, the tech giant might introduce support for Wi-Fi 7, which offers speeds of up to 46 Gbps, a significant increase from Wi-Fi 6E's 9 Gbps.

Notably, Wi-Fi 7 also operates on 320 MHz channels and supports the 6 GHz band, reducing disruptions and signal congestion.

As per Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, this upgraded Mac Studio is expected to be unveiled in the first half of the year, potentially in the late spring or at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025.
