Apple may finally be adding a sleep score feature to the Apple Watch, a tool that’s been available on Galaxy Watches and Pixel Watches for years.

This score sums up your sleep quality each night into a single number, helping users better understand their rest without digging through detailed data.

Apple Watch sleep score feature rumours

The rumours came from the iOS 26 beta code, where MacRumors found references for a "Watch Focus Score."

In a leaked image of the incoming watchOS 10, the Apple Watch displays a screen with the number 84 on and colourful arcs for certain phases of sleep, which appear to fit with Apple's colours of purple for light and deep sleep, blue for REM, and red for awake time. The ring that is shown appears to break down the sleep phases like a pie chart.

Wear OS smartwatches like the Pixel Watch, Galaxy Watch 5, and Fitbit today provide a recap of how one sleeps with a daily sleep score (or readiness score) summarising sleep health.

The new Apple Watch sleep scoring ability may work the same way, or Apple may provide something even more advanced, like a combined health score and recovery score.

This update may also help with the lack of SpO2 (blood oxygen) monitoring features from the US. Due to an ongoing patent dispute with medical technology company Masimo, Apple was forced to turn off SpO2 tracking on newer Apple Watch models.

If released, the Apple Watch sleep score function could be done through a software update, which would allow older watches to utilise the feature as well. Nevertheless, Apple is still working on testing it and has yet to confirm any timelines for a rollout.
