Bananabin is a quirky Mac app that uses animated flies to remind you when it's time to empty your Trash directory. The app's developers aim to make maintaining your computer's storage a fun and engaging experience.
When the data quantity in the folder reaches a threshold one can define, Bananabin surrounds your Trash icon with buzzing flies. You can choose this threshold according to your need, choosing from these three options that are Janitor Mode, The Recycler, or Garbage Hoarder, corresponding to 10MB, 1GB, or 10GB, respectively.
However, this application is currently in beta and free to download; only a small, one-time fee will be required when the release version goes live. The software needs accessibility and full disk access permission in order to read the position that the Trash icon is in at any given time in the dock and to be able to calculate the used space on disks.

While Bananabin only supports macOS Sonoma, the developers have included additional support for macOS Ventura. Note that it won't work if you store your Trash bin on an external drive or use iCloud Trash.
Here's how Bananabin works
Once you've configured the app, Bananabin works its magic by surrounding your Trash icon with buzzing flies when the data stored in the folder exceeds the chosen threshold. Simply shoo away the flies with your mouse to empty the Trash. The app requires accessibility and full disk access permissions to function, which allows it to read the position of the Trash icon in the dock and calculate the disk space used.
Currently, Bananabin supports macOS Sonoma, with plans to add compatibility with macOS Ventura in the future. Note that the app won't work if you store your Trash bin on an external drive or use iCloud Trash.
