Capital Smart Motors (CSM) is preparing to launch electric vehicles (EVs) in Pakistan, starting with imported vehicles and later moving towards local assembly.
During a recent event, CSM's Chief Operating Officer, Abid S. Usmani, announced the company's plans and revealed a strategic partnership with Geely, one of the largest auto manufacturers in the world.
CSM partners with Geely to launch EVs
As part of the partnership, CSM will bring Geely's latest EV technology to Pakistani consumers in two phases. The arrival of EVs is viewed as a significant step towards modernising the local auto market. It will provide brave and reliable options that are also good for the environment.
Initially, CSM will phase in Completely Built-Up (CBU) electric vehicles. this first phase allows customers to buy ready-to-drive imported EVs. The second phase involves Completely Knocked Down (CKD) operations, which incorporate local assembly. CSK operations will subsequently reduce EV costs and create local jobs and help to establish the fledgling local EV sector.
In order to support sales and service, CSM will open dealerships in Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad initially, with national expansion in sight.
CSM has already sent its technical team to China for training in EV maintenance and after-sales support to support service and continued relationships with customers and ever-rising customer expectations and demand for service and support post-purchase.
Although the exact models are not yet confirmed, social media hints suggest CSM might launch the Zeekr X SUV, the Zeekr 009 MPV, and the Riddara electric pickup in Pakistan.
