The federal government plans to extend its electronic vehicle tagging system to motorcyclists in Islamabad as part of its digital vehicle monitoring initiative.

The capital's law enforcement, traffic control, and security surveillance are all intended to be strengthened by this action.

To complement the expanded system, RFID-based E-Tag readers are being deployed at strategic points across the city.

Under the direction of Islamabad Police, Safe City Islamabad is carrying out the project in collaboration with the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO).

The E-Tag system will enable real-time tracking and monitoring of tagged cars throughout the capital.

A larger initiative to enhance vehicle screening and entrance management in Islamabad has been started by the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control, the ICT Administration, and FWO.

To make vehicle registration and verification easier, numerous M-Tag and E-Tag issuance centres and booths were established on November 14, 2025. As of December 7, 2025, 63,329 cars have electronic tags installed.

It is anticipated that the tagging system's expansion to motorbikes will bolster security measures in the nation's capital, close current surveillance loopholes, and enhance vehicle movement monitoring.
