Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk is gearing up to bring long-form videos to smart TVs, according to a recent statement following a report by Fortune magazine. The report suggests that X, a social network platform, is planning to launch a TV application for users of Amazon and Samsung devices as early as next week.

Last year, X started testing video and audio calling features for select users, aligning with Musk's vision to transform the platform into a comprehensive super app that encompasses messaging, peer-to-peer payments, and other services.

In response to a user query on X, Musk hinted at the upcoming feature with a succinct "Coming soon," indicating that long-form videos from the platform might soon be directly accessible on smart TVs.

Fortune's report also mentioned that the new TV app might resemble Google's YouTube TV app, with sources claiming that Musk is looking to rival YouTube in this space. However, X hasn't yet provided any detailed information about the app when contacted by Reuters.

Amid efforts to position itself as a video-centric platform, X has been establishing collaborations with notable media personalities, including Tucker Carlson, formerly of Fox News, and Don Lemon, ex-CNN anchor.

Since Musk's acquisition of the platform in 2022, which has seen its share of controversies and a struggle to keep advertisers, X announced last month its plan to allow video advertisements alongside content from select creators.
