The artificial intelligence (AI) company owned by Elon Musk, xAI, released two new base models for its chatbot: Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini; the innovation here includes better performance upgraded with image generation capabilities that are impressively new.

This innovation would be going to totally change the AI scene, since now users would create and share pictures straight on the X social platform. Grok-2 chatbots can generate images by prompting the end user to do so, using their AI model flux 1 provided by Black Forest Lab.

What's new in Grok-2?

Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini are available in beta on X. Grok-2 has more advanced capabilities in chat, coding, and reasoning. On the other hand, Grok-2 mini is a smaller version, more agile, and balances speed along with answer quality.

Its image generator can generate photorealistic images with very few limitations; therefore, its power brings along some risks of misuse.

Early examples of Grok-generated images have made many people realise the potential for spreading disinformation by depicting easily recognisable political figures in compromising positions.

However, there was no disclosure for these pictures, so nobody would be able to detect whether they were AI-generated or not.

The lack of guardrails may create an avenue for misinformation, deepfakes, and dangerous content to spread.

Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini will be available through xAI's enterprise API later this month, expanding their reach. As AI technology advances, we can expect more innovative applications, but also increased scrutiny.
